Juvenile Liaison Scheme Programmes

Juvenile Liaison Scheme Programmes

In 1987, this component of the Scheme was implemented. The role of the Volunteer is to provide moral support to the juvenile admitted to the scheme and their parents.

Volunteers are encouraged to foster a close relationship with juveniles thereby assisting with supervision. This may include inviting them to take part in their family activities, these may last for a few hours, a day or a weekend. However not all volunteers will have juvenile assigned to them.

SUMMER PROGRAMME

The Juvenile Liaison Scheme for the past thirteen (13) years has been hosting a Vacation programme for a period of (4) Four weeks which has been an integral component of the Scheme rehabilitative efforts with deviant and problematic teenagers.

This program enables children who are referred to the scheme for deviant behaviour to co-exist in an environment, which is friendly and rehabilitative in nature to the participants.

This is a highly structured programme, which is very effective in motivating and developing new skills in the participants.

We assist each child in:

(1) Setting goals for themselves.
(2) Exploring the importance of teamwork.
(3) The practicing of respect for self and others.
(4) Conflict Resolution.

Therefore we challenge and encourage each child to choose a positive alternative to Criminal Activity.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME

The Feed the Children programme is an exciting programme and is relatively new to the scheme. This is where staff members in collaboration with Corporate Barbados distribute food hampers to the economically disadvantaged children attached to the scheme and by extension their immediate families.
